Our resident mixologist Dominic has revealed the six new cocktails he’s created especially for Christmas, designed around the theme of nostalgia.
“This year I really wanted to hit that note of nostalgia with our festive cocktails, whilst staying true to myself and the ethos of Wishes and Aquarius, I wanted to create some great tasting drinks that were quintessentially Christmas in a cup whilst being fun and innovative. This seems to me to be a year that we all need to remember good feelings, so I really wanted these cocktails to evoke thoughts of Christmas through the years. To me, they each represent memories and impressions of the season.”
‘Fireplace’: a warming drink with spiced rum and brandy that glows bright red and gold evoking cosy fires and stockings hanging ready for Santa. Complimenting the sweet and spice are pink grapefruit and caramel tones from Fever Tree light ginger ale.
‘Jack Frost’: mischievous playful bright blue cocktail topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream with a delicious combination of coconut rum and coconut tequila, triple sec and fresh lime. Vegan option available.
‘Deck the Halls’: a red and green offering with a dry but sweet base of port and cranberry juice complimenting the citrusy sweet top of vibrant melon liqueur and lemon & lime gin from Torquay, finished off with our homemade Midori pearls, because it’s just not Christmas without baubles!
‘The Not Quite Chocolate Orange’: martini-inspired, silky smooth cocktail keeping orange flavours in the forefront, mixing small batch mandarin and jasmine gin with French triple sec and Otter Vale Spiced Rum Marmalade.
‘Before 9’: a twist on the classic after dinner mint, combining organic fairtrade chocolate powder with peppermint syrup and Irish Cream to produce a drink that’s creamy, smooth, decadent and refreshing.
‘Christmas Nights’: based on an Aquarius favourite – the Espresso Martini. This new version blends an espresso pulled with Owens Gara Blend with Baileys and Disaronno Cream we create a velvety, silky espresso based cocktail that has taken the Baileys on the Rocks to the next level.
“It was fun to sit and think about all the different colours and flavours that I associate with Christmas. There are so many and I hope I’ve created choices for everyone who loves this time of year.”
You’ll also find classic Christmas drinks on the menu too, from the simple delights of a good glass of mulled wine to the perfect Christmas breakfast tipple, Buck’s Fizz. And we are bringing back the fabulous Snowball, creamy and fizzy and all-round delicious, especially with a candied cherry on top.
As well as serving these festive cocktails to customers, Dominic is happy to share his expertise through cocktail making classes and live sessions on the Aquarius social media sites.
